Shipping machinery is something that the export team at Mercator handles regularly on behalf of our UK exporter customers. Most of the machinery that we ship uses specialist equipment rather than standard dry shipping containers. We are able to arrange sea freight to the USA using equipment such as flat rack containers, open top containers, and even platforms.
What kind of Shipping Container do I need?
The type of shipping container required entirely depends on the nature of the cargo. An open top container is good for goods which are over height, or the goods cannot be loaded through a standard container door. A flat rack is used for cargo which is oversized, such as machinery. Platforms are unusual but can be used if either of the aforementioned container types are unsuitable.
Export from door in the UK
One of our customers recently asked us to arrange the sea freight to the USA of a piece of machinery which required a flat rack container due to its size. We arranged for the flat rack shipping container to be delivered to the customer for loading whilst the haulier waited on site. Once loaded, lashed, secured and covered, we delivered the cargo to London Gateway port for export to the USA.
Mercator’s Export Services
Our export team completed the export customs clearance, VGM and necessary paperwork with the shipping line. The cargo was loaded onto the sea freight vessel for export to the USA. The routing for sea freight to the USA was London Gateway to Charleston, which takes 9 days port to port.
Sea Freight to the USA
Once in the USA, the necessary paperwork and cargo was handed over to our customer’s client in the USA for final customs clearance and delivery. This was handled by their customer as the incoterm agreed on the sale of the machinery was CIF (Cost, insurance, freight).
