Mercator was recently approached to arrange the export shipping to Panama of wooden crated hydraulic presses in partnership with our agent based in Panama. Our connection with the agent in Panama is thanks to our founding membership of the freight forwarding network MarcoPoloLine. The UK exporter sold their goods to the company in Panama on an Ex Works (EXW) basis, meaning that the importer in Panama was responsible for every part of the transit including pick up in the UK and UK export customs clearance. Mercator handled the UK export customs clearance, liaising with the UK exporter for the details. These goods were classified as hazardous, and so they required dangerous goods notes (DGN) which were provided by the UK exporter.
The UK exporter packed the equipment in wooden crates at their site in the West Midlands. Mercator’s export team arranged two 20’ shipping containers to be delivered to the UK exporter’s site in order for them to be loaded. Once the goods were loaded, the haulier delivered the shipping containers to London Gateway quay, ready to be loaded on to the next vessel for shipping to Panama.
Our export team organised the sea freight to Panama with the shipping line, securing the next available vessel. Once the shipping containers arrived in Panama, our agent based in Panama handled the rest of the journey including customs in Panama and delivery to door. Transit time for sea freight to Panama from the UK is approximately 21 days port to port. There are weekly sailings from the major UK container ports.
