Cross Trade Shipment from Slovenia to Australia – A Case Study

Mercator was instructed to arrange a cross trade shipment for our customer based in the UK of three shipping containers from Slovenia to Australia.  A cross trade shipment is when a shipment does not pass through the country that the seller is based in.

Thanks to our founding membership of the freight forwarder network MarcoPoloLine, we have a partnership with a freight forwarder based in Koper, Slovenia.  In conjunction with our colleagues in Slovenia we arranged the delivery of the shipping cntainers to the exporter’s yard for loading.  Once the shipping containers were loaded ready for export, we arranged for the units to be delivered to Koper port for loading onto a vessel.

Our partner office in Slovenia arranged the export declarations and paperwork locally and booked the containers onto the next sea freight vessel for shipping to Australia.  The routing was Koper to Melbourne which took 45 days port to port.  Once the shipping containers arrived in Australia our agent handed the documentation over to the nominated customs clearance and delivery agent for the onward journey.
